…I have them. It’s that time of year: February in North Carolina. It’s not quite Spring yet, and the Winter has begun to drag along. The days are starting to get longer, but it’s not enough. Every year I struggle with this. My eating habits aren’t great, my level of movement is poor. My TV watching is up. My amount of truly restful sleep is down. I know I’m going to bounce back soon, but for now I have to make some conscious improvements to get there.
I’m making sure to take my vitamins, especially B-12, Co-Q10, and chromium picolinate. These are for mood, energy, and metabolism. I’m drinking water. I’m finding any little tolerable amount of extra movement to squeeze in, such as parking far away and walking a bit further than I have to. These are the small steps I take, the ones I can tolerate, when all I want to do is sink into the couch and watch cartoons until Spring finally pops and I feel renewed.
This week (or ASAP), for the first time in over 2 years, I’m going to have my own treadmill again. My tax refund has arrived, so I’m searching on Craigslist now for a used treadmill I can afford. I’m stoked! I really, really like to walk. I also really like to watch TV. If I can do both together, my level of guilt will plummet and my energy, health, and mood will be on the upswing in no time.
Well, those were just a few paragraphs to let you know that you’re not alone if this time of year is tough for you as well. Share with me your tips for kicking the Winter Blues!
I’m right there with you. The winter blues have hit me harder this year because I’ve been riding my bike through this winter. Ready for it to be warm!
Yes! Bike riding is the best! But the scenery must be prettier than this
